The driver of a taxi whose roof was ripped off and auto body crushed in a five vehicle pileup in Bangkok miraculously survived, suffering only minor injuries.
Sandwiched between a cement mixer and a public bus, the pink cab was demolished as it slid under the rear section of the bus on Phayon Yothin road near the Saphan Khwai BTS station in Chatuchak district.
Prayong Srinachu, 46, was pulled out from the wrecked taxi shortly before noon and rushed to Paolo hospital in the Saphan Khwai area, according to a report on the Facebook page of traffic radio FM91trafficpro (see here).
The cement truck hit the back of the taxi waiting for a green light on outbound Phahon Road at the Ratchayothin intersection and pushed it under public bus No.107.
The bus then hit another two taxis in front of it, which in turn slammed into parked cars.
The accident caused a heavy traffic back-up until all the vehicles involved in the accident were cleared from the scene after 1pm.
While removing one taxi, gas leaked from its gas tank, requiring firefighters to spray down the area.
Photos of the accident widely circulated on social media with many people suggesting the government to be stricter on inspecting commercial vehicles.
