The so-called tradition of the liang doo poo sua society in Thai society consists of subordinates buying sex services, usually from teenage girls, for their bosses to celebrate a special occasion.
Concerted government efforts are now being made to stop this longstanding tradition largely hidden from the public view until recently.

RECENT MAE HONG SON GOVERNOR SEX TRAFFICKING CASE
The move comes after a high profile case involving high-ranking state officials including Mae Hong Son governor Suebsak Iamwicharn.
A group of government officials are said to have paid for sexual services from teenage girls at different places and times.

Yutthachai Thongchart, a police senior sergeant-major formerly attached to Mae Hong Son police, arrested on charges of running a sex ring and human trafficking.
NEW CASE IN NONTHABURI
Meanwhile, in Nonthaburi, officials have also come under fire for sex with underage girls.
23 members of Ban Mai Subdistrict Administrative Organisation in Nonthaburi are accused of receiving sex services from teenagers.
They have met with Bangyai administrative officers for questioning in the case.
YOUTH COUNCIL OF THAILAND DEMANDS END TO SOCIAL NORM
Last week, representatives from a child care home, and the Children and Youth Council of Thailand submitted a letter to the Ministry of Social Development and Human Security (MSDHS)
The letter demanded that the ministry find ways to end the inappropriate norm of sexual gifts of underage girls from juniors to seniors.
In response. the MSDHS has launched a social support programme in a bid to ensure state agencies are not connected to the sex trade or human trafficking.
MSDHS Minister Adul Sangsingkeo said the ministry is working closely with security agencies and other relevant agencies to find ways to stop this sex trafficking.
Social norms are explained in the following video:
MEASURES TO BE TAKEN
Police General Adul said the measures are a response to Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha's order to tackle sex trade and human trafficking related problems in state agencies.
The measures include setting up a special unit responsible for regularly inspecting entertainment venues and communities that offer rented houses and dormitories which could be used for providing sex services, he said.
EDUCATING YOUNG GIRLS ABOUT SEXUAL EXPLOITATION
He added that laws and regulations regarding human trafficking and sex offenders must be strictly enforced as well.
Pol Gen Adul said he had ordered his subordinates to set up a programme to educate girls about how to protect themselves against sexual exploitation.
Mr Maitree said the ministry will also set up a programme to educate state officials about the impact of the inappropriate tradition.
