Thailand's northern bus station, the Mor Chit bus station, will be moving back to its original location by the year 2023.

The Mor Chit Bus Station is essentially the gateway to northern Thailand and Isan for those who don't own cars which includes most students as well as middle and lower income people.

NEW LOCATION IS MORE CONVENIENT LOCATION FOR CITY MASS TRANSIT

This new location will be more convenient since it will be next to the BTS Chatuchak Skytrain station.

Mor Chit's current location has never been convenient for the thousands of people going to the station each day using public transportation who do not own a car.

Getting to the station requires an additional bus or taxi ride from the Khampaengphet subway station.

BANG SUE TRAIN STATION: TO BE MODELED AFTER TOKYO STATION

The existing Mor Chit bus station is part of an area that will be developed into a new central train station for Bangkok.

Bang Sue central station, which will replace Hua Lamphong Station in downtown Bangkok.

The new is being touted as Thailand's rail transport hub of the future, although it is unclear to what extent the public that will use the station was ever consulted or involved in the planning process for the station move.

The Bang Sue Central Station is being modelled after the famous Tokyo Station to become a starting point for travel all over the country and also internationally.

Four land plots totalling 300 rai in the area will be developed for commercial use.

WHERE WILL THE STATION BE? HOW BIG WILL IT BE?

The station will be located next to what is now the BTS skytrain maintenance centre and the park-and-ride space near the BTS Chatuchak station.

It will be in the area around the 63-rai Phahon Yothin Transport Centre.

The land belongs to the Treasury Department and Bangkok Terminal won the bid to develop 712,350 square meters.

A building will be built there and The Transport Co, [the national bus company] which operates the inter- provincial bus services, is allowed to use the fourth and fifth floors, totalling 112,000 sq m, as the new terminal.
