"I park like an idiot": Here's proof

Just getting to your destination in Bangkok can be bad enough, so imagine the frustration when you find that the only available parking space has been blocked by some....idiot.

Now many Bangkokians are getting emotional release by posting photos of offending vehicles on a Facebook page begun six months ago named, appropriately enough, "I park like an idiot". (http://on.fb.me/TG9yAH)

Many more are venting their annoyance by commenting on the photos, so harshly that the administrator has had to post a notice forbidding impolite language.

The infractions are familiar to anyone who is out and about regularly in Bangkok: parked vehicles taking up two parking spaces, parking in no-parking zones or on footpaths or blocking the entrances or exits to parking ramps.  Even worse, many ... idiots...refuse to leave the gear in neutral or they even set the handbrake to ensure the car can't be moved.

The harshest comments are reserved for those people who should know better like able-bodied hi-so folks driving luxury cars who park in spaces reserved for the handicapped or police who break the parking laws they are supposed to enforce.

In fairness, finding a parking space can be an aggravating adventure in a city overcrowded with motor vehicles, so it is tempting to bend the rules – just a little. Try it, however, and you may find yourself added to the growing collection of Bangkok's parking idiots featured on this increasingly popular Facebook page.
