When you read Post Today or other Thai language newspapers you will quickly notice they often refer to Thai celebrities, particularly politicians, pop and soap opera stars, by their nicknames (ชื่อเล่น). You’ll learn the nicknames of two important politicians in this story.

นายอภิสิทธิ์ เวชชาชีวะ หัวหน้าพรรคประชาธิปัตย์ กล่าวว่า รู้สึกตกใจกับการที่ทราบว่าคนเป็นรัฐมนตรีคลังได้รับการอนุญาตให้โกหกได้ เพราะนั่นเป็นเรื่องอันตราย หากข้อมูลที่แถลงนั้นไม่เป็นความจริงตามเป้าหมายที่รัฐบาลกำหนดไว้ก็เท่ากับ เป็นการลดความน่าเชื่อถือ ซึ่งไม่ใช่ลดความน่าเชื่อถือเฉพาะตัวนายกิตติรัตน์ ณ ระนอง รองนายกรัฐมนตรี และรมว.คลัง แต่เป็นการลดความน่าเชื่อถือของผู้ที่ดำรงตำแหน่ง รัฐมนตรีคลังของรัฐบาลไทย และลดความน่าเชื่อถือของรัฐบาลไทยไปในตัวด้วย

Mark warns Tong’s lie on export target goals to affect confidence in gov’t

‘Abhisit’ says that Kittirat’s lie on export target goals is a dangerous matter affecting confidence in the government.

Mr. Abhisit Vejjajiva, leader of the Democrat Party, said that he was alarmed when he learned that a finance minister was allowed to lie because that was a dangerous matter. If the stated data did not correspond to the actual targets set by the government, that is equivalent to (causing) a decline in confidence, not only in Mr. Kittirat na Ranong, the (current) Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister, but a reduction in confidence in any person taking the position of Finance Minister of the Thai government, and in the government of Thailand as well.
